This large chunk of rugose coral features natural crystallization throughout the specimen, adding texture and sparkle to the preserved fossil structure. Its interior cross-section reveals the septa: vertical, blade-like plates built by the coral over time to support and structure its soft living tissues. This piece of horn coral has been well preserved through millions of years of fossilization and features fascinating details that truly make it one of a kind.

This fossil is a genuine specimen, hand-dug from the earth and part of our collection of fossils gathered from fossil-rich locations across the Midwest, including: Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio.
