Designed With Meaning: The Purpose Behind Our Look

Designed With Meaning: The Purpose Behind Our Look

As a business, first impressions matter. Whether we like it or not, how we show up in the world holds weight. We live in a time where visuals are processed faster than words, and aesthetics are often judged before intention is understood. You can have depth, purpose, and integrity, but if they aren’t expressed, they can go unseen. That’s where branding comes in.

To us, branding isn’t just about looking good, it’s about being understood. When we first began building Sorella, we knew our mission was solid but wondered how we could convey it clearly to others. Branding our business became the bridge between what we felt internally and what others would experience externally. It allowed us to translate energy into something tangible, something recognizable, memorable, and aligned. Ideas need to be expressed visually outside of the mind, in order to be admired and received well.

At first, we were told not to focus on branding right away, that it could wait, that it wasn’t essential. But to us, it was, because if something is meant to connect, it must be communicated. We knew better than to listen to others who did not share our same dream and believed that if our vision was going to live outside of us, it needed form. It needed a presence, and in a visual world, how you show up matters. We made a decision to brand Sorella from the start, not only to attract the right people, but to help us fully see our vision in a tangible way.

At the start of our branding journey, before colors, before fonts, before design direction, there was a name. Sorella was created from both of ours, Sophia and Arabella. Two separate identities combined into one. Rooted in our Italian heritage, sorella means sister. A word that’s become symbolic of our joint venture, taking two sisters, sorelle, and joining as one, sorella. It’s simple in definition, yet layered with meaning.

As twins, we are alike in appearance but different in nature. Similar on the surface, yet internally wired in our own distinct ways. Over time, we’ve realized that our differences are not obstacles, they’re balance. We approach situations differently, think differently, and move differently but when those differences meet, something cohesive forms.

Sorella reflects that harmony, it’s balance. A representation of unity without loss of individuality. Two energies coexisting without canceling each other out, much like the sun and the moon. A concept shaped by not only our partnership, but our mission. We believe that while beauty and ethics can coexist, so can spirituality and structure, passion and responsibility. We’re here to show that two is not conflict, two is expansion. The name Sorella is an anchor to that belief. A reminder that this business was built on connection first. It was never meant to be created alone but rather in collaboration with each other, and the people and creatives who helped us bring it to life.

Building our business, its voice, its presence, and its vibe, was something we could do on our own. However, when actualizing it in a way others would visually understand, we needed some outside help. Knowing especially that we couldn’t execute visuals on our own, we started the search for the right creative soul that could assist. We needed someone who could take everything we were feeling and bring it to life. Most importantly, we needed someone who could create, while we focused on building the foundation of Sorella.

While it took us a while to find such a talented designer, once we did, everything began to flow. To bring our vision to life, we brought in someone divinely guided, literally. But it wasn’t a hand-off. This was co-creation at its core. With the help of someone who truly understood what we were trying to express, Sorella took form, with clarity and depth. Slowly and steadily, everything fell into place. With patience, trust, and countless revisions, it finally began to breathe. Sorella started to bloom.

If there’s one thread woven through our brand's identity, it’s contrast. We didn’t just choose one mood or one aesthetic because that wouldn’t be honest. No person is just one thing, and no meaningful brand should be either.

Our duality is intentional. It mirrors how we see the world: layered, nuanced, and rarely one-dimensional. We are grounded and spiritual. Elegant and laid back. Structured yet intuitive, and soft but direct; perfectly reflecting the industry we are a part of.

Crystals hold both geological reality and spiritual symbolism. They are formed through science and interpreted through story. We wanted Sorella to live in that in-between space. Not overly mystical, not overly corporate, not chaotic, not rigid, but aligned. Balanced in a way that bridges spiritual intuition with practical structure. In our eyes, there has always been room for both.

Past our duality, there was a feeling we were intentional about creating. Something nostalgic, familiar, and almost home-like. We didn’t want the brand to overwhelm, we wanted it to invite whimsy without chaos. Structure without severity. A space that feels safe enough to explore and refined enough to trust. Because beyond logic, people respond to feeling, and feeling is what lingers.

Our branding overall is a part of us and who we are. It’s everything that matters to us and it is us, that's why we’ve subtly incorporated certain styles and design movements into it like art deco and art nouveau. We wanted organic forms with sharp lines and symmetry; natural motifs with bold colors, and intricate detail that doesn’t overwhelm. Sorella’s colors and designs are all beautifully intertwined, telling a story rich with purpose. Lying somewhere between the past and the future, we’re keeping to our roots while embracing innovation and growth.

Color was never an afterthought for us, it was actually one of the first things our energy went into. Initially, we were drawn to many shades of blue, green, brown, and purple. They felt safe, familiar, and natural. But something about them leaned too botanical, too plant-based wellness. It didn't feel like us. We wanted something more mineral, more elemental, and more reflective of the earth’s core rather than its surface.

That’s where orange came in. A representation of our drive, our fire, and the creative passion behind our purpose. As natural redheads, it also reflects the color of our hair, honoring life force and rarity. It’s the bold spark that keeps ideas moving instead of sitting still. Orange just felt right, inevitable, and was followed by blue; the only color from our original picks that stayed.

Pulled from the sky, blue represents expansion, intuition, and steadiness. Its many shades create a sense of openness and calm we hope people feel when they encounter Sorella. The ever-changing nature of the space above resonated deeply with us, along with its vast serenity and sense of mystery. There is more to our brand than meets the eye, an expansive presence that reaches beyond the visible, and a quiet sense that there is always more to discover.

That’s also where our tagline came from: crystals, minerals, and more. When we chose it, it wasn’t meant to be permanent. We picked it on a whim so we could move on to more important things. At the time, we didn’t fully know what the “more” would be, it just felt right. Like an open space waiting to be filled. A quiet nudge toward expansion, even without the full picture.

Now, we’re starting to see what the “more” might become: new product offerings, collaborations, and new ways to serve and support our community. But whatever it grows into, it will always be curated from a place of care, connection, and alignment.

Even after our colors were picked, we felt like something was missing. We needed a thread to tie everything together. An accent that could act as a visual focal point, contrasting with the chosen colors to create depth, dimension, and detail. We picked gold and it was a no brainer. It represents intention and refinement; the sacredness we believe exists even in small rituals. A subtle reminder that detail matters. Gold was the needed accessory, accentuating and encompassing blue and orange. With such a contrast, opposites are held together with an equal medium.

Together, all of the colors tell a story. One of sky and fire, expansion and ignition. Fluidity is grounded by strength, and even the softer tones and creams we subtly incorporate are intentional. Adding a hint of tranquility and neutrality, to give balance and peace to the ensemble. They bring in dimension and breath, and prevent boldness from becoming overwhelming.

Lastly, gold was assigned to a few elements. Some pulled from the night sky, some drawn from grounding structures, and others from nature-inspired architecture. This is shown subtly through the mix of art deco and art nouveau-inspired styles you see. Natural and timeless, yet structured and bold. Each element, adorned with gold, acts as the glue of our branding. Held together by a  shared bond, the blending of two into one becomes something truly beautiful and real.

While branding is often mistaken for appearance alone, to us, it's an experience. It’s the feeling someone gets within seconds of landing on our page. It’s the tone of our writing, the way our offerings are presented, and the clarity of our communication. Presentation matters. So do our crystals, and the two must complement each other.

Yes, you can have beautiful designs without substance. You can even have strong ethics without presence. But when both align, something sustainable forms. We don’t separate how we look from how we operate. The care you see visually is the same care we put into sourcing. The intentionality in our layout mirrors the intentionality in our decisions. Branding, for us, is simply our values made visible.

When design is aligned, it resonates beyond logic. It’s psychological, whether we acknowledge it or not. It shapes perception before a single word is read. It influences what feels trustworthy, desirable, or aligned. We’ve had customers gravitate toward blue and orange stones after spending time on our site, as if something subconscious clicked into place. That isn’t accidental. Visual language speaks, long before logic catches up, and we’ve seen the proof.

Every choice we’ve made, from our name, to our colors, to our tone, reflects who we are and what we stand for. This is not just how Sorella looks, it’s how Sorella shows up. Our brand identity is not fixed. It will evolve over time, and we welcome that. But the foundation will remain the same, built on sisterhood, guided by contrast, and always rooted in intention.

What we hope, now, is that you can see it. Not just the colors or the design, but the intention behind it. The way everything connects, and how each detail carries meaning. Sorella is not random, and it’s not surface-level, it’s a reflection. Of us, yes, but also of the space we’re creating for you. One where what you’re drawn to visually might lead you to something deeper. A place where two things can be true at the same time. Where beauty and standards meet, where curiosity is welcomed, and where exploration feels safe. As Sorella expands, new ideas, offerings, and directions will unfold in their own time. But no matter how much changes, the heart of it will stay the same; intentional, connected, and built with care.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. Truly. Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or just found your way here, your presence means something. We’re always listening, always learning, and always open to what resonates with you. If something spoke to you, we’d love to hear your thoughts down in the comments. This is just the beginning, and we’re really glad you’re a part of it!
